It is the first time a scientific study showing the effect of cranberry in preventing formation of plaque buildup, which narrows the artery size. Atherosclerosis is the second leading cause of serious cardiovascular disease: heart attack and stroke. Comparative study included analysis of 30 mice with atherosclerotic lesions. Half the mice received a diet with cranberry powder, for 20 weeks. All mice were deficient in apolipoprotein-E substance and were likely to develop atherosclerotic lesions, making them an excellent model for biomedical research. Finally, plaque of rats fed blueberry powder was 39-58% lower compared with the other half.
